CAGAYAN de Oro National High School (NHS) made it to the semifinals after defeating Bulua NHS, 70-55 in the 2nd Cagayan de Oro Inter-Public School Basketball Tournament secondary boys division on Saturday, August 19, at the West City Central School covered courts.
Jericho Hermoso finished 16 points for the City High Tigers, while Jomarie dela Piedra and Jay Reed chipped in 12 and 8 points, respectively.
The Tigers of coach Bismark Labadan were all hat off to Dela Piedra as he led them to an aggressive start and cracked Bulua's defenses, while his teammate Reed dominated the paints for pick-and-roll baskets.
Bulua NHS Lakers, on the other hand, are put in a must-win situation against Iponan NHS Red Knights in the wild card 2 of the modified tournament format.
Whoever wins between the Lakers and the Red Knights will advance to the quarterfinals phase.
"Mao `to ang advantage sa City High pagdaug kay automatic sila sa semis labina gamit ang modified format," Raul Fuentes, tournament commissioner, explained.
Joey Oculares also led the Lakers with 17 points.
Other results saw Carmen NHS junior Thunders nipped Indahag NHS junior Skyhawks, 50-46 in the 15-under boys division; Bulua NHS lady Claymasters pulled a 30-28 escape over Canitoan NHS lady truckers in secondary girls division.
Also, PN Roa Elementary School little Valley hoopsters crushed Pagatpat Elementary School little Spartans, 26-19 in the elementary level.
