CAGAYAN de Oro National High School handed Canitoan National High School (NHS) of its first defeat after a thrilling 47-45 escape in the 2nd CDO Inter-Public School Basketball Tournament 15-under boys last Saturday at West City Central School covered courts here.
Von Russel Rosete fired 13 points to lead the Junior Tigers of coach Bismark Labadan, while Riggs Sasuman and Mark Irvin Tagucod doled out 9 and 7 points each.
City High patiently waited for the right time to get the needed breaks against Canitoan NHS Blazing Bricks of coach Bien Cubilan.
The Blazing Bricks were hot from the start and even held a 7-point lead, 37-30 with Jovanie Suco leading the charge.
But, Canitoan failed to sustain the momentum as City High instigated a 9-2 run to even the score, 39-all.
The Baby Tigers wrested the lead by five, 44-39 but the Blazing Bricks fought back to ensue another deadlock, 45-all.
Canitoan had the chance to win the game with 14 seconds left. However, City High botched it with a steal on its isolation play and Rosete fished a foul to seal the victory by converting his two freebies.
In the ladies division, Bulua National High School Lady Claymasters posted their first win in the league after beating Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School Lady Cavaliers, 42-29.
Jonalyn Molina led the Claymasters with 13 points including three from the 3-point.
Via Margarita Malidas and Margie Galape chipped in with 6 markers apiece.
In the secondary boys, Indahag National High School Skyhawks edged Iponan National High School Red Knights, 74-71.
Jerryco Penales knocked 20 points and provided the heroics in the dying seconds of the game for the Skyhawks.
South City Central School Southern Stars downed PN Roa Valley Hoop, 32-26 in the elementary boys division.
