THE Davao City Business Bureau calls on the boarding house and apartment owners to have their businesses registered as they have closed down more than 300 boarding houses in the city last August alone after Kadayawan Festival.
This call from the City Business Bureau is to help with the regulation of these types of business as well as for the safety of the tenants.
On the sidelines of the Ispeak press conference Thursday, December 21, Business Bureau officer-in-charge attorney Marissa Torentera said during August of this year, specifically after Kadayawan Festival, they have closed more than 300 boarding houses operating without business permits.
This is one of their latest operations since by the later part of the year, specifically by December, they are no longer allowed to conduct inspections anymore. However, Torentera emphasized the call for these business owners to have their business boarding houses and apartments be registered to the Business Bureau.
“Others do not attempt to apply for permit because they already know they won’t pass the regulatory offices. Once you have failed one of the regulatory offices, you can’t really acquire a business permit. So perhaps they have contemplated they cannot pass, they just continue operating without necessary permits,” said Torentera.
She added others are not aware that they would need a business permit for boarding houses with only a few boarders staying for transient. Torentera clarified that this still needs permit.
“We encourage these owners to get the necessary business permits for that kind of business because we really need that. At the same time, this would help us in regulating them. For example, their tenants would need receipt, they couldn’t issue legit receipts because they’re not registered in the first place,” she said.
