Cocolisap invade coconuts in Zamboanga City

Published on

ZAMBOANGA City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said they are undertaking various pest management and control measures to prevent the spread of the coconut scale insects (CSI) commonly known as cocolisap in this city.

The measures came after they discovered that cocolisap have already infested several coconut trees in the village of Bunguiao and Victoria, east of Zamboanga City.

Palacat said they have activated City Crop Protection Quick Response Team (QRT) to assess the damage caused by the cocolisap infestation.

Palacat said they have to immediately act to contain as early as possible the cocolisap infestation while it is not yet in the alarming level.

He said they are working closely with the Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine Coconut Authority and other concerned agencies to control and prevent the spread of the infestation.

Palacat said they are set to conduct rapid treatment to contain the spread of the cocolisap.

The DA is crafting strategies to prevent the spread of the cocolisap to the other parts of this city.
