A FEMALE student died while her five companions, including a minor, were injured when the vehicle they were riding figured in an accident at Bangga Bagul, Barangay Granada in Bacolod City around 3 a.m. Sunday.
Police identified the fatality as Maureen Genesis Gareza, 20, of Granada Heights Subdivision.
Senior Inspector Sherlock Gabana, head of Police Station 5, said Gareza was supposed to bring home her boyfriend’s companions when they met an accident.
Gareza, who was driving a Nissan Sentra, reportedly tried to overtake a motorcycle that caused her to lose control at the wheel.
The vehicle’s left rear tire exploded and hit the gutter on the right side of the road. The vehicle then turned turtle.
Gabana said Gareza died on the spot while her five companions sustained minor injuries, and were later discharged from the hospital.
