THE Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) warned colorum vehicles parked in an alleged illegal terminal on Lopez Jaena Street in the city to vacate in five days or face impoundment.
The warning was issued after an inspection conducted by BTAO officer-in-charge Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, Wednesday at the said terminal.
During the inspection, 13 vehicles without franchises were parked in the area.
Colorum vehicles are unregistered transport without franchise issued by the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
Acebuche said the impounded vehicles will be placed at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) headquarters.
Earlier, Vallacar Transit Inc., operator of Ceres Liner buses, filed a complaint to the City Council on the presence of colorum vehicles.
The private transport firm is operating a transport terminal adjacent to the alleged colorum terminal.
Acebuche said only seven vans have franchises approved by the LTFRB to operate along the Sambok terminal.
Colorum operators will be fined P150,000 to P200,000, if they fail to vacate the area in five days starting Wednesday.
Acebuche said a public hearing is scheduled Friday, October 7, to address the problem.
In a related development, more than 100 pedicabs were impounded by BTAO, as of Wednesday, after it entered the festival sites at the downtown area.
Acebuche said pedicab drivers are prohibited from passing by the festival sites along San Juan, Rosario, and Burgos-Lacson Streets to avoid causing traffic.
He said the impounded pedicabs at BCPO headquarters will be returned to their owners after the 23-day MassKara Festival. They will be fined P100 each.
Also impounded were more than 50 tricycles that obstruct the areas along B.S. Aquino Drive.
