MORE than 10,000 voters have registered in the National Capital Region (NCR) during the first week of the continuing voter's registration nationwide for the 2017 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.
Data from the poll body showed that a total of 10,584 voters registered from November 7, the start of the five-month registration period, to November 12.
Taguig City posted the highest number of registrants with 1,884.
On the other hand, a total of 116 first-time voters (15-17 years old) and 5,821 voters, who are from the 18 years and above age bracket, filed their registration for the youth polls.
The Comelec is expecting more than 55 million voters in the October 23, 2017 polls, with the inclusion of SK voters aged 15-17 years old.
Applications for registrants, transfer/transfer with reactivation, reactivation, change/correction of entries/and inclusion/reinstatement of records in the list of voters will be accepted at the local Offices of the Election Officers (OEOs).
The continuing registration started last November 7, 2016 and will run up to April 29, 2017, Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, except on December 24 and 25, and April 13 and 14.
During the first week of the July 2016 voter's registration, a total of 10,047 registered, with Caloocan City, 1st District receiving the highest number of applicants at 764.
Applications for registration for the SK in NCR from 15-17 years old bracket and from the 18 years old and above bracket were 2,326 and 5,490, respectively.
A total of 3,095,187 registered for the 2016 Barangay and SK elections from July 15 to 30. (FP/Sunnex)
