Cops detain five violators of special laws

CAMP BADO DANGWA -- In its bid to eliminate all forms of illegal activities in the region, five individuals were separately arrested last week.

On June 22, Rolando Colas Mariano, 52, a resident of Ledesma St., East Modern site, Aurora Hill, Baguio City was arrested at his residence after he was caught in the act of collecting bets without any identification card and uniform issued by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Seized from his possession were gambling paraphernalia, and cash money amounting to P220.

Aside from illegal gambling, the Police Regional Office Cordillera is also active in the campaign against illegal logging which led to the arrest of four transporters in a checkpoint operation after failing to present pertinent documents authorizing the travel of forest products In Kalinga.

Leonardo Linggayo Pagtud, 27, driver, a resident of barangay Cudal and his companion Benny Maiyao Balangui, 52, a resident of barangay Calaccad both in Tabuk City, Kalinga were arrested at Callagdao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Seized from the vehicle of the duo described were five Narra finished products.

In Ifugao, Julius Secretario Echevere, 22, driver, and his companion Jordan Caoli Estioco, 29, laborer, both residents of Sawmill, Villaverde, Nueva Viscaya were nabbed at Poblacion East, Lamut, Ifugao. Seized were 54 pieces of Gemelina lumber loaded in a pick-up truck.

Authorities in the region said it will continue to hit hard on all forms of illegal activities in the region and to file charges against person involved. (PR)
