REIGNING champion Edilberto Coquia Jr. of I.FlexSpartam unloaded a barrage of punches against Balikatan champion Jojo Tabang, pinning him down to defend his crown in the 115-118 pounds via unanimous decision in the main event of the Davao Urban Fighting Championship (DUFC) Fight Night Diez "Rise of the Kings 2" held recently at the I.Flex Fitness Center in Maa, Davao City.
As the bell rang, the 17-year-old pride of Davao City connected haymakers on Tabang's face as the punishment lasted the entire first round.
Tabang, however, tried to fight back despite the heavy beating he took from Coquia who left his left eye swollen.
Both fighters brought the fight to the ground but Coquia's impressive first round won the judges’ decision.
Though the fight was quite brutal, but the spirit of sportsmanship prevailed.
"During the awarding rites, Scobby (Coquia Jr.) shared his victory to the visiting opponent from Manila (Tabang)," I.Flex event manager Florence Diez said.
"Our champion defended his belt and offered it to Tabang. Coquia Jr. has a pure heart of a champion. Truly a Dabawenyo pride," Diez added.
In the co-main event, Reydemtor Nacionales of I.FlexSpartam also eked out a unanimous decsion victory over Rodel "The Guardian" Garde of Limitless Fitness and MMA gym.
Allan Guarde of Limitless Fitness and MMA gym, however, defeated Nards Tancontian of I.FlexSpartam via guillotine choke while John Lloyd Sumbal of I.FlexSpartam subdued Lito Altizo of Team D.
I.Flex warrior Mark Anthony Llego thwarted Melchor Gaborno via unanimous decision while April Joy Duat of Team D finished with a rear naked choke on I.FlexSpartam Hezekiah "The War Machine" Lim.
I.Flex Warrior Michael Ganzon stopped I.FlexSpartam's Vince Coronas via rear naked choke while Jopito Masangkay of I.FlexSpartam won over Rumnick Dumamig of Team D via referee stoppage.
