EDILBERTO "Scooby" Coquia Jr. of I.Flex Spartam beat Jun Lucas of Team Starbudz Gym via technical knockout (TKO) in the main event of the Davao Urban Fighting Championships (DUFC) Fight Night Nuebe dubbed as "Rise of the Kings" held at the I.Flex Fitness Training Ground in Maa, Davao City over the weekend.
Coquia measured his opponent in the first round through jabs and front kicks but he capitalized on his height advantage, unleashing powerful sidekicks that went straight to Lucas' face, thus, ending the fight.
"Nakatsamba lang po ako sir. Nung first round tyempo lang muna," Coquia said in a Facebook chat with VoxPop Davao.
He, however, was confident to win the fight but in a different way as he was also surprised after knocking Lucas down with a side kick.
"Thankful and proud ko sir sa akoang daog kay nag bunga ang akoang practice ug training (My training paid off)," the 17-year-old Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter said.
Arvin Chan of The Den Manila also triumphed over Niño Paulo Almendrala of Wolves Liar via Kimura submission in the middleweight co-main event.
Meanwhile, Rodel Garde of Limitless Fitness and MMA Gym stopped Nards Tancontian of I.Flex Spartam while Eldan Guardados of I.Flex Spartam subdued Jeff Dumaguit of Team Steelyard via unanimous decision.
The rest of the winners were Allan Garde of Limitless; Anthony Dayang, Jhon Ezekiel Pagalangan of I.Flex Spartam and Melchor Gaborno; Samuel Diones of I.Flex; John Lloyd Sumabal; Don Dave Plimanco of Team D and Rumnick Dumanig.
