CAGAYAN de Oro’s top footballing schools Rosevale School and Corpus Christi on Saturday, September 16, advanced to the semis of the Milo Little Olympics football tournament.
This, after topping their groups in the Elementary Boys and High School categories at the Westridge Sports Park in Barangay Carmen.
The Rosevale Elementary Boys team of coach Mario Sumapong, finished top in Group A of their category after finishing with three wins. The Rosevale kids registered also a lone draw. They drew with Bukidnon Faith School 1-1 but then swept their other three matches.
They won over Malaybalay Central School 5-1, then downed First Fruits Christian Academy of Valencia 2-0, and dumped West City Central School 12-0 to arrange a semis clash with Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School (Olles) of Camp Philips, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Bukidnon Faith placed second to arrange a showdown with Corpus Christi. Bukidnon Faith finished the elims with two wins one draw and one loss.
The Corpus Christi boys topped Group B with two wins and two draws. They beat Iligan Central School 4-1, and Olles 3-1. However, the boys of coach Webbie Racines Iligan drew with Medical Center College 1-1 and St. Mary’s School 1-1.
The Olles boys tied with Iligan Medical in the standings with two wins and one draw and one loss slates but moved to the semis against Rosevale School after registering a higher goal difference.
Rosevale and Corpus also topped their groups in the Secondary category. Rosevale of coach Dennis Bongocan finished with two wins and a draw to top Group III while Corpus was undefeated in three games in Group II.
Rosevale will meet Holy Cross in the semis today while Corpus will clash with Looc National High School. Holy Cross topped Group IV, while LNHS led Group I.
The semis will start at 8 a.m. today with the winners advancing to the finals in the afternoon and the losers making into the battle for third place in this 7-Aside tournament organized and sponsored by Nestle Inc., the makers of Milo Energy Drink.
