THE Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution requesting Mayor Evelio Leonardia to study the possibility of implementing the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) memorandum ensuring the Social Security Services (SSS) self-employed coverage of all contractual and job order personnel of the city.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas, who cited DILG’s Memorandum Circular No. 2014-83 dated July 18, 2014 ensuring the SSS self-employed coverage of all contractual job order personnel engaged through a contract of service by the local government units who are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
“A number of our city government employees who have been employed for several years have job order and contractual status,” she said.
These employees have been employed without having any benefits from the city.
The SSS, in its continuing campaign to reach out to millions of workers without social protection, has partnered with the DILG through a memorandum of agreement to ensure the provision of SSS coverage in favor of contractual and job order personnel.
Under the SSS expanded self-employed program coverage, the contractual and job order personnel in the employ of the government who are not covered by the GSIS Law may apply such coverage to have protection against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and other contingencies that the SSS offers.(MAP)
