ANGELES CITY -- Councilor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. has called for inspection of all structures in this city to ensure that buildings could withstand strong earthquakes.
Lazatin filed on Tuesday three resolutions, asking the Office of the City Building Official and the Office of the City Engineer to inspect infrastructures, including public schools and bridges, in the city
The resolutions were approved by the City Council during their June 13 regular session.
The resolutions are in compliance with the National Building Code of the Philippines.
Lazatin explained that the National Building Code Office, an agency under the Department of Public Works and Highways, issued a memorandum circular enjoining all building officials to conduct an annual inspection to all types of buildings within its jurisdiction.
Lazatin said conducting an annual inspection will ensure that all electrical, architectural, mechanical, plumbing, sanitary safety standards are maintained and implemented.
“After our city was rocked by 5.5 magnitude earthquake last May 25, there is an urgent need to conduct inspection on all building in the city,” Lazatin said. “At sana gawin itong annual inspection at hindi lang pag-nagkaroon ng ganitong pangyayari.”
“After all, it is the paramount duty of the City Government to ensure the safety of its residents at all time,” he added.
