THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) through Mayor Evelio Leonardia to strictly enforce the use of safety helmets among motorcycle riders.
It is provided in City Ordinance No. 466, Series of 2008 or the Motorcycle Safety Helmet Ordinance as amended by City Ordinance No. 535.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairman of committee on police matters.
Section 4 provides that it shall be the duty of the motorcycle drivers and its back rider to wear the standard helmet approved by the Department of Trade and Industry.
The resolution stated that erring drivers will pay P300 for first offense, P500 second offense, and P1,000 for third offense and will undergo a seminar on Land Transportation and Local Rules and Regulation with Land Transportation and BTAO.
For the safety and security of the constituents, especially those who are driving their motorcycles, it is necessary that the continuing campaign for the wearing of protective helmets be done, and motorcycle drivers who do not comply will be arrested and imposed the corresponding penalties, it added.
