THE Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) will strictly enforce the use of helmets for motorcycle riders on March 27 and will go after jaywalkers starting April 3.
Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, said on Wednesday they are intensifying their information dissemination on these ordinances among the motorists.
“It is not acceptable the motorists will use the alibi that they are misinformed,” he said.
All police stations will conduct checkpoint operations to arrest erring motorists, he added.
Those who will be arrested will be fined P300.
If the driver fails to present the official receipt of the motorcycle, the unit will be impounded.
Acebuche said those carrying passengers nine years old and below will also be arrested.
BTAO records showed from January to February this year, a total of 372 traffic accidents were recorded, with 272 physical injuries.
Acebuche said most of the victims were motorcycle drivers not wearing helmets.
He added that the public should use the pedestrian lanes to avoid penalties.
Violators will pay P100 for first offense then P200 and P300 for second and third offenses, respectively or, will render community service.
