SIXTEEN teams will bid for honors as the first Regino "Boy" Cua Cup basketball tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at the Goldstar Gym in Davao City.
Competing in the mini division are St. Mary's College of Tagum (SMCT), University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), San Juan Elementary School (SJES), Maa Central Elementary School (MCES), United Methodist School of Davao (UMSD), Assumption College of Davao (ACD), Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) and Davao Christian High School (DCHS).
SMCT, Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, Cabantian National High School, Ford Academy of the Arts, Davao Christian High School, Stella Maris Academy of Davao, ACD and UIC will vie for the cadet title in the cagefest sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and organized by the Cua family.
The teams will play the single round-robin format group elimination where the top two teams in each group will advance to the crossover semifinals.
Semis winners will clash for the crown while the losers will battle for third.
The tournament, in cooperation with the Davao Developmental Basketball League (DDBL), is organized in memory of the late SBP regional director Regino "Boy" Cua, the godfather of Davao basketball.
It aims to keep his passion for the sport alive, especially among the youth.
