I KNOW summer is always hot but seriously, this summer is scorching!! I cannot begin to tell you (though you probably know already), how absolutely uncomfortable it is to step out into the sweltering heat every morning!
I used to be comforted by the fact that sunlight is good for newborn babies and plant growth but this heat is ridiculous! Barely out of the shower and you find yourself sweating like a pig! The heat hurts, by the way. You can feel it go through your skin with such discomfort that you would want to take multiple baths strategically scheduled throughout the day!
That being said, please do take heed when I say hydrate! Get loads of water into your system! Up your water intake to three to four liters a day!
Gone are the days of six to eight glasses of water a day my friends. Now that global warming is pretty much in the picture, we really need to drink water more! Staying properly hydrated allows our body to function optimally so try to keep that in mind!
You would not want to be missing out on the fun because you’ve developed a urinary tract infection! Take care of your pets too, don’t let them out in the sun too much. Give them water and do remember to spritz them when it’s really hot so their bodies can cool off! Tick and fleas infestation can also be a potential problem so make sure you have that covered too!
Common illnesses during the summer are out to get you too! Do be wary of sore eyes as they are quite common during the season. When your eyes become red, swollen feel heavy and itchy, head to your eye doctor and have it checked! Dry eyes can be a problem too. You may experience a stinging sensation coupled with tearing up and eye redness. This can be quite uncomfortable so you need to seek medical help to alleviate the condition. Protect your eyes from too much sun exposure too! Wear appropriate eyewear so the harmful rays can be blocked from hurting your eyes.
Fun in the sun is the name of the game. Summer plans definitely means more time spent outdoors. Whether you decide to go to the beach, hike up the mountains and travel to places you want to go, always remember to also make sure you keep your skin healthy! The sun can be harsh so have your sunscreen ready! Sunburns will be pretty common so keep in mind to spare yourself from sun exposure especially from 10 am till 2pm when the sun’s heat is at its mightiest! (yeah right, good luck with that)
The heat can trigger asthmatic attacks. If you are asthmatic, always bring your meds with you. If you start getting your asthma attacks quite often, a visit to your doctor may be a good idea! The same goes for those with allergic rhinitis. We all know how the weather can abruptly change.
Although we will always welcome a cool drizzle of rain, some of us are bound to have adjustment problems in changing temperatures. It goes without saying that we still expect the surges in cough, colds, fever and flu so do take care of yourself to make sure you celebrate summer without a glitch! You may also want to have your flu vaccination done. By this time, the updated flu vaccines are already available and this would greatly help keeping you healthy when the flu season starts around June.
Beach bods are in this summer. All of us may not be blessed with such bodies but we can always look out for tummy health! Nobody wants to spend rushing to and from the bathroom because of an upset stomach right? We do not want vomiting, dizziness and stomach discomfort! Surely, you would like to work towards keeping your tummy healthy so better pay attention to the food that you eat!
Take notice that during summer, food spoils easily because of the heat. Try to keep tabs on food freshness, making sure that the food that you eat will not cause you any problems! Take note of the food that spoil easily so that you do not end up in the ER. Store food properly and get rid of those that have been “overstaying” in the fridge!
Be careful during your eating adventures! You never know what evil virus or bacteria is ready to pounce and cause havoc on your gastrointestinal system right after you take your first bite! Hala! If you are like me who loves sampling local fare and are very adventurous when it comes to tasting street food then be doubly vigilant about what you put in your mouth! Food poisoning is highly possible during summer months because the heat spoils food faster so make sure you do not fall into its trap!
These are only a few things you need to remember to keep your summer experiences fun and happy! Now go ahead and continue making great memories for you to reminisce in the future! :)
