I REALLY wanted to be pleasant. I wanted to write an article pretty much like my usual feel-good-stay-positive writeups. I tried guys, I really did. But, there are things in life that you just cannot pretend doesn’t exist.
You could say that I gave all the chances I could to possibly understand a person but well, I have reached the end of my rope and I am deeply disturbed that I want to cry out of disdain. Ugh. Just the thought makes me flinch. I find myself repeatedly rolling my eyes and shaking my head out of disbelief. Really, I have no words to describe this discomforting feeling that has crept up on me. I can’t shake it off!
I, of course, am assuming that most Dabawenyos are pro-Digong and are, therefore, surely affected (in whatever degree) by the VP’s most recent stunt. Quite honestly, I was deeply engaged in our conference activities that I lurked less in social media the past few days.
Boy, was I surprised when post after post of the UN message appeared on my wall. I don’t get it. Why? I know that the opposition would be coming at the Administration from all sides, but to go to such length is beyond my human understanding!
Do not get me wrong, I am all for free speech and all that, but when you drag the rest of the country into your imagined mess and make it look like we are a hopeless nation neck deep in EJK (extrajudicial killings) and suffering from the evil hands of a tyrant out to undo the “blessing” that was EDSA, you have stirred a hornet’s nest!
I am not a political analyst and would never pretend to be one. I do not like politics and all the mud comes with it. My bestfriend Emil actually says I’m politically apathetic because I hardly discuss it. I find politics distressing. I find politicians stressful. Well, let me just say that I do it for my own self reasons--self preservation.
I do not want to risk resurrecting my cancer cells currently (and with God’s grace, permanently) in remission! Thank you but no thank you. I would rather live in peace away from all the political action so that I can live longer (and stress free).
But that was just too much. Hay nako. The anguish that I felt made me cry. What the heck is wrong with these people? Why drag the whole country down just so you can get what you want? From the way things have been going down, it felt like I woke up right smack in the middle of a plot of a Hollywood-made political movie! What the hell??? I have gotten used to the fact that Ang Probinsyano imitates reality to increase viewership further cementing Coco Martin’s movie status as The Actor but for real life seemingly duplicating the reel world? Are you serious?
Please stop the drama. Why don’t we just try to work things out as a whole nation first? Why can’t you just do your job first before you start yakking? Why can’t everyone try to work things out, set aside differences and personal or political party gain for the common good?
There are public servants who really have the best interest of our country in mind. They have their hearts in the right place, for our marginalized brothers and sisters as well as in the best interest of Mother Nature and our natural resources. Why not allow them to serve the people? Clearly, they have best interest of our country but no, the politics get in the way service. Geez.
In the past eight months since the administration started, I have witnessed how news reporting can be selective and skewed to serve the “needs” of a powerful few rather than be of service to everyone. Boy, I never realized how media can be so biased and self-serving.
I did not think it was possible but witnessing it firsthand just makes my skin crawl! It has really changed my perception of mainstream media. I try to console myself by thinking that at least, now I know that I should never assume things to be true because not all things don’t turn out to be so. Apparently there are people who believe that things “do not need to be true, it just needs to look like that.” Ugh.
I would like to think that discovering this “practice” has its good points. For one thing, it forces people to discern truth from fiction by checking the veracity of a report. False news accusations come from all sides. It is our duty to figure out is actually honest.
I have to admit that it does get tiring to do but if that is what it takes then we must exert utmost effort to learn the truth. Still, it is disappointing how personal gain and political power lords over national interest and welfare.
Money and control beats love for country and national pride. Sad and worse, there are people who actually prove that it is true.
