I'M SORRY but I find it hard to believe that the mainstream media is not biased. I do not usually write about politics because God knows we see a lot of that the whole week, but sometimes some things just bothers you too much that you just have to deal with it to be hopefully be over it.
I have been called apathetic and apolitical by friends quite a few times, but I am not. I just prefer to look at things from the sidelines and give the people or entities involved the benefit of the doubt.
On the issue of the mainstream media being biased, I have tried every explanation and trick on my book to “give them a chance.” Believe me when I say that I have tried (and still am trying) to give them the benefit of my doubt but as of this article, they are failing badly. It has come to a point that I do not even bother to watch the news (I just watch the showbiz balita) nor read the front pages of the major broadsheets most of the time. Attempts at doing so only lead me to disappointment and disgust. I have become so increasingly disillusioned!
But I still try to see them in positive light.
I also try to keep an open mind about it and even try to reason with myself in defense of their actions. Yup! But they really suck. Big time.
Every day since the present administration came to office, I have been experiencing a steady surge of conflicting feelings about the mainstream media and it is both disheartening and very disconcerting.
As the bringer of news, it is safe to say that it is expected of them to at least be fair. Fair in the sense that they would report both good and bad issues about any personality, office or institution, especially the ones that clearly need shedding some light on. Yes, we all have our biases but as news agencies tasked to inform the public, it is their duty to keep tabs on their “feelings.”
Balanced news and balanced programming, right? Sadly, I think that this has ceased to be the case since the Duterte Administration became incumbent.
The media, it seems, has morphed into an unruly monster that quite frankly, has had me shaking my head most of the time in disbelief. Is it me or have they really turned into this unreliable entity that I used to trust before? I am quite certain that I am not only one with this sentiment. Other people have expressed over and over, their disdain over this. One would be living under a rock if you didn’t know that! Most days, you react but end up just letting it slide. Quite honestly we are ridden with enough daily stress to even think about this!
But these things tend to nag you constantly, how much of it can anyone take?
Something has got to give, and sadly it seems it’s the people’s trust that you are losing. And you wonder why social media has been gaining ground while have you have been losing your hold on what used to be your playing field? Really? Tsk.
What happened to mainstream media? What pushed you to reveal such an unattractive facet of yourself? Used to be the go-to for news! We may not always like what we read but at least we knew that we were getting news and views from all concerned!
How did things come to how they are now? I am not one to jump the bandwagon but this time it seems that what the people have been saying is really true. I did not want to even believe it at first but the recent turn of events really got me to thinking that all that talk about your biases are true. Still I thought that you should be given the benefit of a doubt but it seems that you really might be guilty. But l was still hoping to be proven wrong.
I did not want to think that you were doing this for money. I did not want to think that this is all for power. I did not want to think you were doing this as/for favors and for the survival of your established alliances with some influential people who have lost the mandate of the people. I really didn’t want to, but your actions are making it difficult for me to believe so.
I am having a hard time considering the fact that this can actually in real life, not just in some of the movies that I have watched. It is quite disturbing to see life imitating art; and even scarier that it may have art has always based its plots and turns on actual real events. Geez.
Do prove us wrong. Make us believe that you are, above all, really in the service of the Filipino people and not a chosen few. Show us that your fearless views are really borne out of balance news always. Prove beyond reasonable doubt that your heart is truly for the Filipino, regardless of color, literally and figuratively. Until then, do not be surprised by the turn of events that you probably never thought possible.
It has come and it will continue for as long you do what you do. Will the tides turn in your favor soon? I don’t think so, and you’re drowning in your own waters. Fast.
