ALL systems go for the staging of the 5th SK Daliao Youth Chess Tournament that will unfurl on December 17 at the Barangay Daliao Covered Court in Toril, Davao City.
National Arbiter (NA) Ely Acas bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Family Room on Thursday, December 14.
Acas said the annual event is initiated by barangay councilor Joseph Dumogho to provide a venue for woodpushers in the barangay.
Acas added that some 100 players will vie for honors in the free-registration event.
"The tournament is open to all players from ages 30 years old and below," Acas said.
The event has 30 years old and below, 16 years old and below and 12 years old and below categories.
Acas said last year’s 12-below champion Wesley Jovan Magbanua of the Jose Maria College and 16-below champion Eric Yngayo will try to defend their titles in the six-round Swiss System format competition sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).
Early bird registrants will enjoy freebies, including free shirts, snacks and lunch.
Cash prizes at stake with the top three winners of the 30 years old and below category will receive P8,000, P4,000 and P2,000 with medals.
The fourth to 10th placers will not go home empty-handed as they will also take home consolation prizes of P500 each with medals.
The best female will also receive P1,000 and a medal.
The 16-below champion, however, will take home P5,000 while the next two winners will grab P2,500 and P1,000 with medals.
The fourth to 10th placers will also receive P300 each and medals.
In the 12 years old and below category, the top three winners will receive P3,000, P1,500 and P800 with medals while the fourth to 10th placers will be given P200 each.
