A FARMER died from 11 gunshot wounds in an attack in Sitio Langlang, Cogon Cruz, Danao City last Thursday morning.
Crusano Bacang, 41, who was reportedly included in the list of persons suspected to be involved in illegal drug activities of Danao City Police, suffered three wounds in the face, three in his neck, three in the chest and two in his right arm.
A piece of bondpaper was placed on top of Bacang’s body with the words, “MANANUM AKO UG MARIJUANA AYAW SUNDA (I plant marijuana, don’t emulate me).”
Police recovered empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol.
PO3 Roselo Campo of the Danao City Police Station said that Bacang and his wife were on their way to a hospital for a checkup when two armed men, who covered their faces with bonnets, fired at the victim. They spared Bacang’s wife.
The culprits fled on board their getaway motorcycle.
Campo said that the place where Bacang resided in Barangay Lawaan was mountainous and marijuana plants are reportedly being cultivated.
Police are looking into the possibility that the attack was drug-related.
In an earlier interview, Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of the Danao City Police Station, said it was possible that drug groups in the city are cleaning their own ranks.
Several incidents of drug personalities killed by unknown gunmen are recorded from Danao City.
In Central Visayas, at least 200 persons with suspected drug links have been killed, in what police considered “deaths under investigation.”
