THE search for the new set of Datu Bago awardees is on to recognize outstanding individuals who have significant contributions in the development of Davao City.
Marina Ruivivar of Datu Bago Awardees Association said during the weekly forum at The Annex of SM City Davao on Monday, November 13, that they already have a total of 156 awardees since it started in 1969.
This year, they only received one nominee, thus, they are encouraging the public to nominate if they know someone who pass the qualification and submit the needed requirements.
"The search bestows honor upon an individual who has contributed to the development of the City of Davao with exemplary competence and dedication and who best serves as a model of excellence and as an inspiration to the residents of Davao," she said.
The search is held annually initiated by the Datu Bago Awardees Organization in partnership with the city government of Davao. The awarding usually takes place during the celebration of Araw ng Dabaw wherein the final listing will be based on the approval of the city mayor.
Ruivivar added that it is open to persons of any nationality, living or deceased, born in Davao City or have been residents in Davao City for at least 10 years. The living nominee must accept the nomination.
The previous nominee who was not approved can be renominated provided that additional substantial information and documentation merit a reconsideration of the individual or entity.
The nominee may be nominated by a person who has integrity residing in Davao City or an organization, operational in Davao City for the past 10 years.
The criteria for the evaluation include outstanding contribution(s) to the growth and development of the city of Davao; exemplary service(s) rendered to the community in any field or endeavor; work-related accomplishment(s) must merit national and/or international recognition placing the City of Davao on the map and must be law-abiding, of good moral character and integrity and has a good reputation in the community.
Those interested may get the nomination forms to executive director Maria Julieta P. Torres. Their office is located in Museu Dabawenyo at A. Pichon Sr. Street, Davao City. One should bring duly accomplished official nomination form, biographical data of the nominee, three recent 2x2 picture and three sets of supporting documents.
The deadline of submission is on December 15 at 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, she added that there have been many nominations for President Rodrigo Duterte but since the consent is needed from the nominee, it did not prosper because the President, who has been declining since he was a mayor, said that he does not want awards. (JCR)
