THE Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) secondary boys’ basketball team took home the gold medal in the three-on-three basketball competition of the Palarong Pambansa 2017 that came to a close on April 29 at the Biniyaran Sports Complex, San Jose in Antique.

The team, under Nestor Sorrosa's coaching, Davraa survived past Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) 21-20, in the championship match to redeem itself from an unwanted quarterfinals loss against Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) 65-79, in the five-on-five event .

Sorrosa, in a phone interview with VoxPop Davao, said the team is still satisfied with what they achieved.

"Bisag wala mi kalusot sa pikas (5-on-5), lipay kaayo mi kay naka gold gihapon mi sa 3-on-3 (Even though we didn't able to make it in our first event, we're happy that we clinched the gold in the 3-on-3 event)," said Sorrosa, who was assisted by coach Roger Rabago.

The chemistry of Vince Petdeo Cuajao and Aljay Alloso from Holy Child College of Davao, John Kelvin Amora of Ford Academy of Arts, Ateneo de Davao University player Marione Angeles powered the Davraa, who also took down Region I Athletic Association (RIAA) in the semifinals.

"Gi balance nako ang mga strenght sa mga bata para gwapo ilahang positioning (I balanced the strength of the kids to make a good positioning)," the multi-titled coach said.

Seconds to play, Sorrosa recalled that SRAA has a 20-18 advantage and one shot to go towards the victory when Amora was fouled and converted both freebies and tied the game to 20-all.

Cuajao then tipped in a missed shot to seal the game as they added four gold medals for the Davraa who placed seventh overall.
