THE air quality in Davao City is better compared to other highly-urbanized cities in the country, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Davao reported.
Davao City Airshed Governing Board (DCAGB) focal person Melvin Dapitanon said EMB monitored the air quality in the city at good to fair level since last year.
The reading between 0-54 microgram per normal cubic meter, which for the EMB-Davao is colored green, indicates good, and 55-154 colored yellow is fair, Dapitanon said.
Dapitanon said the bureau is using pollutants, which are particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead and ozone, as the criteria to verify air quality.
“Based on the monitoring with regards to Republic Act 8749 or The Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, Davao City has a good to fair air quality last year and this year,” Dapitanon said.
Dapitanon encouraged everyone to be concerned for the environment and urged all vehicle owners to follow the fuel standards to avoid smoke belching, and stop the practice of burning of solid waste.
