MATI CITY, Davao Oriental -- Davao City Chillside posted two straight victories at the start of the Visit Davao Fun Sale (VDFS) Ultimate Frisbee Challenge at the Menzi Beach Resort in Dahican here Saturday, April 22.
The event was held in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Davao and the City Government of Mati.
Davao City Chillside routed Team Navy, 11-4, before whipping Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos, OS) Frisla, 11-3, in the tournament backed by Air Asia, Bonamine-Tempra, Cebu Pacific, Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI) card and Tanduay Rhum.
Davao City, composed of Inggo Lugayaw, Dexter Verdeprado, Inin Ampong, Bryle Quimintan, Vincent Balucanag, Dann Avena, Naps Naparan, Nelson Cañedo, Joie Monterola, Jan Sumanding, Gerard Casthor, Gale Cornel, Shannen Gapate, Jane Cornel, Chai Barug and Aple Tadlas, will clash against Tagum City Seeners.
In other matches, Mati City's Batman Ultimate, demolished Seeners, 11-2, while Kidapawan City Tadhana survived past Davao City Blackhap, 9-7. The Mati City team was reinforced by athlete from the United States of America (USA), Boracay and Palawan.
Meanwhile, Mati City administrator Engineer Joel Capalit, who represented Mayor Carlo Rabat during the opening ceremony, welcomed all participants, guests and sponsors as he urged them to enjoy the beautiful beach of Dahican.
"This is the best time to exercise our sportsmanship. Apart from showcasing the beauty of Mati, we also want to inspire the frisbee athletes to excel with their sports. I hope everyone will enjoy their stay," Capalit said.
Other matches were still being played as of Saturday.
The semi-finals and championship are set today at the same venue.
