THE Davao City Council approved Tuesday, May 15, on suspended rules, an ordinance giving authority to Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to sign an agreement with the scholars of the Educational Benefits Systems Unit (Ebsu).

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) will govern the duties and responsibilities for the implementation of scholarship programs.

During the suspended rules, Al-ag presented the item with a certification of urgency and necessity of a resolution and an ordinance to be passed under suspended rules.

Based on the copy of the resolution, the MOA will cover the scholars of various educational assistance implemented under Ebsu.

Currently, Ebsu provides assistance to underprivileged students with high intellectual capacities to have access to college, vocational/technical, medical and law education.

All of its grantees present pertinent documents and requirements before they become official scholars of the city.

Last May 10, the Ebsu of the Davao City Mayor's Office received 235 applicants for the Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program for the school year 2017 to 2018.

Ebsu Technical Assistant Emilio Domingo Jr., said that their office has closed the applications for the Step program last April 28. Of the 235 applicants, they have listed 110 qualified applicants based on their initial requirements.

Domingo said that they are set to accept 80 scholars for both law and medicine. (KVC)
