THE Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC) is currently looking for interested investors to put up parking facilities in the city to better implement the "No street parking" policy.
According to DCIPC Officer-in-charge Lemuel Ortonio, their office acknowledges the concern of some pedestrians regarding vehicles parking at the side of the streets.
"We acknowledge the concern that there are several drivers that still park at the sides of the streets. I believe before the full implementation of this policy, the City Government would want to make sure first that there are available parking facilities," Ortonio said during the weekly forum at Habi at Kape, Abreeza Ayala Malls on Wednesday.
"One of the measures to implement the `No street parking' policy is to put up parking buildings and facilities, whether vertical buildings or horizontal lots. Now, the DCIPC is tasked to create a special incentive package for those who will put up their investments on parking facilities. The city legal office has helped us in crafting the details of the draft ordinance," he added.
The draft ordinance was already finished last Wednesday and will only be up for review before it will be forwarded to the incentive board for approval and then to be endorsed to the City Council for consultation and approval.
Part of their plan is to adjust the length of the incentive period.
"The return of investment for parking facilities is a little slow. We compute their return of investments as our baseline versus the length of the incentive period we will impose," Ortonio said.
