THE Davao City Enterprises Office is expecting to earn from the Santa Ana Pier beautification project as part of the rehabilitation are income-earning amenities.
Maribeth Lumactod, CEO officer-in-charge, showed Friday the architect’s perspective of the pier development where it showed a baywalk, a building for food establishments, set on landscaped grounds.
The City Tourism Office intends to complete the beautification by May.
The dilapidated pier is also expected to be rehabilitated as part of the P218-billion grant extended by the China Government, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Wang Yang, vice premier of China, earlier toured Santa Ana pier and other areas.
Lumactod said that if pursued, the number of sea vessels docking in the area is also expected to increase.
She said that at present, only one pier is functional and siltation has made it impossible to service ships.
Also, only wooden hulled boats and small inter-island vessels use the pier.
“Nibaba na ang mga number sa barko, wala nay musulod na vessels, naay siltation sa area dili magamit kay masangit ang mga barko (The number of boats have dwindled. No big vessels can enter the area because of siltation)," Lumactod said.
In 2014, a total of 550 vessels dock in the area, but now only 68 boats going to the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) are using the pier.
But Lumactod said any upgrade of the pier facilities will require the approval of the Philippine Ports Authority and a legislative authority as well.
"Although there we have MOA (with PPA), any major improvement still has to go to the PPA, we need a go signal from them," she said.
