THE Davao City Government encourages the private sector to put up Christmas decorations in various establishments to make the celebration of the Pasko Fiesta more festive and to help brighten the entire city.
City Tourism Officer Gene Rose Tecson, at the sidelines of Thursday’s launching of Turismo Café at Marco Polo Hotel, said they are tapping with the private sector to make the celebration successful.
“Sana po mag participate po kayo sa iba’t-ibang competition na mangyayari sa Pasko Fiesta (I hope you will participate in the various competition that will happen during the Pasko Fiesta),” she said.
This is in line with the instruction of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to encourage all the private sector to brighten their business establishments and all the tourism establishments in the city to make it more festive.
Under the directive of the mayor to include all the sectors and make everybody happy, Tecson also acknowledged the role of the private sector and urged them to make their decorations apt to the city’s theme for this year for the contest dubbed as “Kahayag sa Dabaw”.
“[I hope] private establishments would light up the façade of their buildings since we have competition and cash prizes for that,” she said.
For the big category, the champion will receive P150,000 while the next two placers will claim P100,000 and P50,000. The first three small category winners will get P75,000, P50,000 and P25,000.
The winners will be judged based on originality (30 percent), creativity (30 percent) and overall impact (40 percent).
She, however, added only those middle and average establishments are considered to participate while five-star hotels and big malls are excluded.
The small establishments should have less than 1,000 square meters total establishment space and use at least 5,000 outdoor Christmas bulbs or lights while big establishments must at least cover 1,000 square meters with at least 10,000 outdoor Christmas lights or bulbs.
She added decorations should be composed of 70 percent lights and 30 percent of other Christmas decors or ornaments.
The entries will be determined by the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center and interested establishments could visit the tourism office for more details.
