THE Davao City Council on Tuesday, April 25, approved the development a 16.6-hectare lot for the construction of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Mindanao Campus in Sasa, Davao City.
Based on the committee report of the Committee on Housing Development Rural and Urban Development, the total land area applied for "allowable use" is around 166,512 square meters or 16.6 hectares.
The area is originally classified by the city as commercial and medium density residential.
Paolo Laurel, LPU executive assistant to the president, during the committee hearing reiterated before the committee the commitment of LPU in providing Dabawenyos affordable education with high quality standards courses that the university can offer.
The committee report also stated that Roy Ryan Rigor, City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) assistant city planning development officer, favorably endorsed the project considering its socio-economic, environmental, and national significance.
During last week’s session, Architect Jim Abalayon assured the City Council that they have eyed alternative water resources for the building.
He also assured the Council that they are considering to construct the school in accordance to the green building code. He added they also intend to install solar panels on rooftops of the buildings.
