DAVAO City Councilor Bonifacio Militar went ballistic Tuesday, October 25, calling the housing units built in Los Amigos by the National Housing Authority (NHA), a doghouse due to the questionable quality of the houses.
The councilor also questioned the memorandum of agreement between NHA and City Government, citing the agreement as unfavorable to the city.
Militar, City Council sub-committee on housing chair, during the "Pulong-Pulong ni Pulong" weekly media forum said the houses can be likened to a dog house and could not give comfortable living for the settlers.
"If we will allow this P135,000 unit there it will be inhuman, coming from us we have to also observe that kind of living they will have in the area," he added.
Militar also said he has to raise this issue because this has to do with the beneficiaries and how they will be building their lives from this.
"You know if you have nothing, you can sacrifice living there but for us who are concerned with their comfort it is not the kind of assistance that they should get," Militar said.
The councilor, meanwhile, said that majority of the councilors have already agreed to hold in abeyance the release of the NHA fund to build more houses.
This was backed also by Councilor Rene Elias Lopez who said that some parts of the memorandum has been changed which makes it unfair for the city.
"In accordance to memo agreement office of Al-ag, the NHA will shoulder the construction, but however during the discussion, they say na nag-change na daw and back to the city na ang implementation portion ng memorandum. We are in the part of clearing that issue," Lopez said.
Lopez said the release of the second batch funds for the housing project in Los Amigos has been brought to the council for approval two weeks ago.
"The NHA released these as part of the 20 million project where the 10 million ay nagawan na sa Los Amigos, and then second release for the construction of more houses,” he said.
He added among the things that the City Council is discussing right now is who will construct the next batch of houses.
