DAVAO City Councilor Bonifacio Militar, chairperson of Government Properties Committee, said that they are in coordinating with the executive department to have more than 300 small lots donated to the city titled under the city's name.
Militar said these lots, which are mostly donated by subdivisions, are in forms of open spaces or lots for drainage systems.
"We are preparing now for the ordinance as requested by the executive department to have these more than 300 properties titled in the name of the city the amount involved in terms of real property tax is over P3 million only because these are small lots," he said.
He said there has been a problem in acquiring these lots due to the non-payment of real property taxes by the donors.
Militar said the ordinance they are crafting seeks to give exemptions for the city in the payment of the taxes for real property.
"We are preparing now a resolution ordinance which will give exemptions in a way if these properties will transferred in the name of the city then why should the city spend for the taxes," he said.
Presidential Declaration 1216, mandates that subdivision owners developer to donate lots for open spaces to the local government units.
Militar said apart from that he is also crafting an ordinance requiring the City Legal Office to facilitate the immediate transfer of name of the titles of some 50 city owned lots.
These lots include the areas in Rizal Park, the Davao City Hall, and the Hall of Justice in Ecoland.
