THE Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) will deploy 30 enforcers, who will apprehend those who illegally dispose waste in coastal areas and riverbanks, this month.
Cenro head Engineer Eliza Madrazo told reporters Monday, September 18, that they intend to deploy the enforcers as soon as possible, in time for the rainy season.
"Ga-ulan successively in two days, naglutaw ang basura sa sapa. The city will launch soon the Limpyo sa Baybay because we can see that nagka-grabe ang problema (There has been two-days of successive heavy downpour and the garbage were seen floating in the rivers. The city will launch soon the Limpyo sa Baybay because we can see that the problem has gotten worse)," she said in an interview on Monday.
Madrazo said enforcers under the "Limpyo sa Baybay" program will be trained to effectively do their job.
"The 30 enforcers (are required to be) physically fit, 18 to 35 years old. They are to be trained by the Central 911 for the orientation related to coastal areas, and Cenro will train them on environmental laws and policies," she said.
Madrazo said the project will also be done in partnership with the Coastguard and all other agencies.
The same project will cover 26 barangays and the enforcers will use motorized boats to conduct apprehensions.
Meanwhile, Cenro conducted Bayan Ko Linis Ko, an annual coastal clean-up activity on Saturday, September 16.
Around 5,000 volunteers from barangays from three districts, private sector and national agencies including the Department of Education and Philippine National Police joined the event.
