DAVAO City Water District (DCWD) spokesperson Bernard Delima said that water flowing in Cabantian area, which was complained to be yellowish in color, is safe to drink.
Delima, in a media interview on Tuesday, July 4, at the sideline of City Council Session Hall, said that the situation was due to pipes which had not been used in a while.
"Two weeks ago, gi-improve man gud namo ang services sa Cabantian instead of every other day nga naa silay tubig karon naa na silay 12 hours a day or more daily (Two weeks ago, we made improvements in the services of Cabantian area that is why instead of every other day they have water 12 hours a day or more daily)," he said.
Delima said that they've made improvements including the tapping of other water sources to supply water in Cabantian.
"Now the pipes, which has been long installed, were not used for almost one year and when it was used with sufficient pressure, debris came out with the water," he said in vernacular.
He said that according to the quality control, the water is chlorinated and they do not release water not chlorinated.
"Chlorinated siya pwede mainom naa lang ta'y fears with the color but actually if you will drink it nothing will happen to you, but as added measures of those who live in Cabantian, they may choose not to drink it if they do not want to," he said in vernacular.
He said that residents can use the water for other purposes.
Delima added that they conduct daily flushing or the intentional release of water through blow off in certain pipes to clean it.
"We conduct it daily including the areas of Emily Homes and Deca Homes," he added. He said that the activity is conducted during night time.
He said that recently they added 800 cubic meters of Dumoy Water in the reservoir of the area which they source out from Dumoy hydrants.
He added that the recently finished production well, purposely for the Panacan area, was also tapped, and its yield goes to the portion Cabantaian and Panacan.
