DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urged councilors all over the Philippines to put up programs promoting responsible parenting to solve the problem of poverty.
"Number one talaga dapat merong pagplano sa pamilya and number two dapat talaga educated ang mga susunod sa atin, otherwise kung hindi sila makapagtapos ng senior high school, hindi sila makapagtapos ng college yung chances nila na umangat sa buhay is very slim, nandoon na yung cycle of poverty sa pamilya nila," Duterte-Carpio told thousands of councilors who attended the Philippine Councilor's League 3rd Quarterly National Executive Officers and National Board Meeting and 2nd Series of Continuing Local Legislative Education Program (CLLEP), held at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, Davao City on Tuesday afternoon, September 19.
Duterte-Carpio said that the problem of poverty stems from lack of family planning and responsible parenthood, which results to less chances of children to finish in their studies.
"I am sure sa mga kababayan ninyo marami doon na mga mag-asawa, walo ang anak, sampu ang anak, kahit isa walang nakapagtapos ng college. Maraming families na ganoon, six, seven, eight, nine, children, zero ang college graduate so umuulit ang cycle ng kahirapan," she said.
She added that the K to 12 program of the Department of Education is very helpful since even those who did not graduate college can have skills that make them employable.
"Skilled na yung mga bata, employable na sila, pwede na silang magnegosyo under small and medium enterprises," she said.
Apart from giving advice on strengthened programs for poverty, Duterte-Carpio also thanked the councilors who supported her father, President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 election.
She also addressed councilors from opposition groups to support the programs of the present administration.
