DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio eyed to increase the allowance of the barangay police in the city.
The mayor issued such statement when asked whether there is a chance to increase the allowance given to barangay police, following the concern whether to continue the Barangay Peace and Order Unit (BPOU) in Davao City.
Duterte-Carpio said the Public Safety and Security Command Center, through its head retired Major General Benito de Leon, is still reviewing the program whether to continue the BPOU.
"Tanawon nato kung ipadayon pa ba ang BPOU o dili na. Actually, wala jud obligasyon ang city na sweldohan ang mga tanod kay under na sila sa mga barangay, pero naga-hatag ta sa ila ug allowance (We will see if we continue the BPOU or not but the city has no obligation to give salaries to the tanods as they are under the barangays. We, however, give them allowance)," Duterte said.
Duterte said they have not yet discussed the concern of the barangay police, but since the latter have expressed their concerns, it will soon come out in the recommendation to increase the allowance for barangay tanods.
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte earlier challenged all barangay police who had been members of the BPOU to continue their job as police auxiliary in their respective villages with or without compensation.
On September 23, City Administrator Zuleika Lopez signed the memorandum announcing that the contract of service of all village augmentation units is terminated effective September 30.
