THE Davao City Water District (DCWD) will be constructing another production well in Toril to address the issue on low water to no water pressure in elevated areas of Toril especially during peak hours.
DCWD currently has around 9,000 service connections in Toril under the two operating production wells that can supply a total of around 10,000 cubic meters per day. On average, one service connection can consume around one cubic meter per day.
“Not that we are lacking but we are already on our threshold. So there are areas such as upper Piedad that experience low water to no water pressure at peak hours of water usage. It’s not really interruption; it’s just that the pressure decreases because the 9,000 service connections use water at the same time. Since they are on the elevated portion, the water could not reach their areas anymore,” Deputy Spokesperson Jovanna Cresta Duhaylungsod said.
In order to address this concern, their project of adding another production well, with a capacity to generate about 5,000 cubic meters per day will already be up for bidding by May. DCWD targets the completion of the project by 2019.
Duhaylungsod clarified that this is different from the bulk water supply project that they are currently doing with Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc. (AAII) as DCWD’s Toril area has its own set of facilities independent of the bulk water supply project.
She said the bulk water project will be concentrated in District 3 from Tamugan going towards the Dumoy Water Supply System and then toward District 2.
