THE alleged bagman of Senator Leila de Lima, Ronnie Dayan, will return to Manila on Tuesday to begin the processing of his application to the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Witness Protection Program (WPP), according to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.
Aguirre said that the original plan was to give Dayan a provisional coverage of the WPP after his testimony before the House committee on justice last Thursday. But this, however, changed when the latter decided to go home to Pangasinan.
"Dayan first wanted to return to his family...So, the process for the provisional WPP coverage will only begin most probably on Tuesday, the day he promised to return," Aguirre said.
According to Aguirre, Dayan will have to execute another affidavit, as the DOJ will not consider the affidavit he crafted for last Thursday's hearing at the congress.
During the continuation of the House probe into the illegal drug operation in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) last Thursday, Dayan said he accepted money from Eastern Visayas drug trader Kerwin Espinosa five times for then-Justice Secretary de Lima's senatorial bid.
He also admitted having an affair with de Lima, which, according to him, lasted for seven years.
Dayan, who is now under the custody of Pangasinan Provincial Command, was arrested on November 22. (Sunnex)
