THE Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) awarded Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) on Thursday night, October 13, as the most Outstanding Chamber in the Philippines and the Most Outstanding Chamber in Mindanao during the 42nd Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Marriot Hotel in Pasay City.
DCCCII President, Bonifacio T. Tan told VoxPop Davao in a phone interview that the award is the result of teamwork within the Davao chamber.
"The award we received is a product of s joint-effort of all the board of trustee, its members in serving the business community in cooperation with our City Government," he said.
PCCI said the Davao Chamber was recognized as the most outstanding chamber in the country because "of its outstanding performance as an advocate of Philippine business, demonstrated by its active involvement in influencing policy makers and undertaking programs and activities for the expansion of commerce and industry, trade and investment."
While, DCCCII was also acknowledged as the most outstanding chamber in Mindanao due to its "commendable efforts in accelerating business growth in the area as evidenced by its exemplary leadership and dynamism, strong advocacy programs, increased membership base and effective delivery of service," the PCCI said.
At present, DCCCII has a total of 368 members and still growing. The chamber started in 1968 with only 61 pioneer members, a 100 percent Filipino membership, from the ranks of the city's leading businessmen, traders, industrialists and agriculturists.
The continuous growth of the chamber's membership, DCCCII said, is a reflection of a robust business community in the city.
"With over 300 businessmen and firms as members, DCCCI's potent and crucial role in the economic growth and development in the city and in Mindanao is more evident than ever," DCCCI said in its website.
Tan said earlier that the chamber, true to its mission "shall uphold and promote business interest of, and provide global linkages for its members and the Davao business community."
DCCCII, in its vision statement said, they strive to be a globally-recognized Davao business chamber that actively shapes local, national and international socio-economic landscape of the society.
To achieve this, the chamber said that they have to be effectively responsive to the needs of its members and guided by the spirit of camaraderie, objectivity, honesty, fairness, free enterprise and quality service. (ASP)
