THE Davao City Water District is positive that the City Council will approve their proposal for building four separate septage treatment plants in different zones in Davao City.
DCWD spokesperson Bernard Delima said that the plants will be set up in the city's North, South, Poblacion, and Toril areas adding that these areas are just temporary, depending on availability of the property where the plant will be built.
He also said that the project will be divided in two phases.
The City Council has yet to approve the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the city and DCWD.
“We will be allocating an initial funding of P300 million for the first phase (septage plant 1 and 2) which will cover 65 barangays (villages) in the urban area. The plants have a capacity of collecting 240 cubic meters of septic waste a day each,” Delima said. The second phase will cover 45 villages.
Last December 13, Delima said, the City Council headed by City Councilor Diosdado Mahipus had an initial hearing on the proposal.
Last July, after finalizing the talks with the City Council, Delima said that inclusion of the septage treatment plant fee in the water bill was discussed.
He said if the City Council will pass the MOA immediately, they will start the construction in the second quarter next year.
Delima said that septic tanks should be dislodged in every five years, and their office will be responsible for the putting up the septage plant.
He said that building a septage facility is part of their secondary mandate for the water district.
