DE LA Salle Zobel (LSIS) claimed the 1st Manila Negros 18 Under Volleyball Invitational championship with a 25-14, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-16 victory over Living Stones International School (LSIS) at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center of St. John’s Institute (SJI) in Bacolod City.
The tournament was held from January 17 to 20.
Host team St. John’s fell to Talisay City Selection for second runner-up honors in a thrilling five-setter 25-14, 22-25, 23-25, 25-8, 19-17.
The Cristina Salak-mentored DLSZ topped the single round elimination with six wins. The Bacolod-based LSIS, Talisay Selection, and SJI finished with a 4-2 card, but LSIS got the second slot due to a better quotient.
The individual awardees were Justine Jazareno of DLSZ as Most Valuable Player and Best Outside Hitter; Cassie Carballo of LSIS, Best Setter; Angel Anne Canino of DLSZ, Best Blocker; Vanessa Gandler of DLSZ, Best Server; Shaira Mae Jardio of Talisay City, Best Libero; and Matet Espina of LSIS, Best Opposite.
The tournament, also participated by Pontevedra Selection, Foundation Preparatory Academy of Dumaguete, and Assumption College San Lorenzo Makati, was the initiative of SJI and DLSZ. (PR)
