LAST Sunday, we've seen the coolest, most heartwarming and hilarious father's day posts, tweets and snaps. But are we done? Nope. Here's more to the most magnificent and magical men in our lives!
Young as we are, we’re used to hearing that “back in their day” the world operated a bit differently. I know it can really be tough to sit through those dinner talks, but before you roll your eyes, maybe it's time that we listen to some of the wisdom that the baby boomer generation has to give. After all, we owe them almost everything that we enjoy today.
Though yes, we’re living in a different era than our parents, the life and values they grew up with serve as the ultimate foundation of who we are and who we could further become.
Whether through words or through plain actions, here are few of the best lessons that my own "Chief" has taught me:
1. Reinvent constantly - No one is ever too old or young to learn, and that we should always be willing to try anything (within reason).
2. Sleep, TV, fixing the pipes, the ceiling, and reading all have places in your life.
3. Stay cool, calm, and collected. (There's already a nagging world out there).
4. Always keep your car and your backyard clean. It's okay to get your hands dirty, but not your reputation.
5. Handle the curves. - Slow into a curve; accelerate out of it. Approach life's twist and turns by slowing down, assessing the situation and then get moving again.
6. Stay cool, calm, and collected. (Yes! More of these, sir!).
7. Corny is cool (enough), and that laughing at your own jokes and dance groves is, too... life can be serious, but don’t take yourself too seriously and don’t overthink too much.
8. Being the great writer that he is, he taught me that my words matter, and that I should always write and say what I mean and mean what I say.
9. Love unconditionally (including a bunch of grumpy people).
10. Stay cool, calm, and collected (Yes! finally, more of these!)
I'm sure that you too have your own list. But even if it sounds corny, preachy or over-protective at first, the lessons we get from our dads stick with us. And even if we still refuse to laugh at their dumb jokes, we're more than willing to thank them for all of the "invaluables" they've given us.
So to all the dads, dad bods, mom-dads and all those who are brave enough to take on the role, thank you!
And to our dearest "Chief" and "Popa," we love you sir!
