SENATOR Leila de Lima described the whole House Committee on Justice's two-day probe into the alleged drug trade at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) as a mere “sarswela.”
The senator said she received information that most of the witnesses who gave their testimony had been tortured or threatened if they will not support the move of the present administration to pin her down to the illegal drugs in the Bilibid.
“This is outrageous. Puro kasinungalingan na lamang po ang ginagawa nila para madiin ako at ang perceived na mga kalaban nila sa politika...This is not about the truth. The hearing is not about in aid of legislation. This is about persecuting me," De Lima said in a press conference Thursday.
The senator also lamented the threats to her safety she is receiving following the revelation of her personal mobile number and address during the House probe.
"I have been receiving harassment, intimidating messages, pananakot, pambabastos. Pero hindi ko na po alam kung saan ako tatakbo because the Philippine National Police cannot even protect me,” she said.
De Lima is also mulling on filing charges against those behind the probe. She also revealed that she might seek the Supreme Court’s "writ of amparo" to protect herself from intimidation and harassment.
“I am no longer safe. And no institution anymore can ensure my safety. These people are violating my rights and even my rights to security. I have to temporarily leave my house because even the security of the subdivision is now at stake pati my neighbors ko na nakatira duon.” De Lima said. (Sunnex)
