DELEGATES of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018 lauded the Bag ng Pagbabago that they received from the city government of Davao during the opening rites at the University of Mindanao (UM) track oval Sunday, February 18.
Davao City administrator Zuleika Lopez, during the program, bared that delegates each received a Bag of Pagbabago that has a shirt, two fresh milk, two chocolate drinks, biscuits, two bottled water, towel, cap and school supplies.
Lopez said, "Bakit bag ang ang hatag ni Mayor Inday Sara (Why is Mayor Sara giving bags), para gamitin sa pag-eskwela, education being the top priority of the city government of Davao."
"Bakit pagbabago, since our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal said the youth is the hope of our fatherland and President Rodrigo Duterte said ang kabataan ay susi ng pagbabago ng bayan. Mag-aral ng mabuti at sabay-sabay nating baguhin ang mundo at kinabukasan," she added.
She thanked the city's private sector partners for helping them provide the bags and its contents.
A Digos City coach, in an interview, said it was first ever in the Davraa history that delegates get tokens from the hosts.
"Karon ra jud ni (This only happened now)," she said.
Junrey Cabaluna, a 12-year-old elementary boys volleyball player of Davao City, said, "Happy kaayo ko kay wala ko nag-expect nga hatagan mi tanan ug bag ng pagbabago kay dako kaayo ni nga tabang sa Davraa, labi na ang bag na magamit nako pag Grade 7 nako (I'm happy, I didn't expect this. It would really be a great help for me during the Davraa Meet. I can also use the bag next school year)," he said.
Ralph Agbones, 13, a Grade 7 swimmer of Montalinao, Banay Banay, Davao Oriental, said the healthy drinks inside the bag would help him during the weeklong meet.
He also said, "Pasalamat kaayo mi sa naghatag kay naa nasad mi school supplies para next school year (We are happy to those who gave the bag and school supplies we can use when the new school year starts)."
Davraa veteran Ailyn Mainot, 14, of Davao del Norte said the bag is nice.
"Pwede maisagarbo nga nakaapil ko ug Davraa tungod sa bag. Pasalamat lang pud mi sa naghatag ani kay dako kaayo ug tabang sa skwela ug sa among stay sa Davraa (I'm proud to have competed in the Davraa because of the bag. I thank the giver as it will be a big help in our studies and in our stay during the meet)," the Grade 9 New Corella batter added.
She is seeing action in her fourth Davraa Meet and it was the first time in four years that she received a token from the Davraa host.
