IN OBSERVANCE of September as the National Clean-up Month, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) urged all regional offices to participate in the nationwide clean-up drive in a bid to promote a clean and green surrounding scheduled on September 17.
DENR Environment Management Bureau-Environmental Education and Information Division (EMB-EEID) Chief Elenida Basug said they have a five-point agenda which includes agenda for Bayan Ko Linis Ko, urging the offices to pursue a National Clean-Up Day as part of their clean 500 program.
“We hope the region in Mindanao in Region 11 (Davao Region) can actively urge our citizenry and communities also to participate in this clean-up of estero and water waste under the expanded adopt-an-estero/water body program, clean-up of schools, cities, municipalities, even markets and the forest,” Basug said.
The five provinces in the region were expected to join in the activity to show support for the first Mindanaon President, Rodrigo Duterte in its environmental campaign.
On Thursday, September 1, DENR will be the starting the Municipal and Provincial meeting on how to plan their actions for the national clean-up program.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro), on one hand will also hold a coordination meeting on September 5 as part of their preparation for the upcoming clean-up drive.
Cenro Head Eliza Madrazo in a press briefing on Wednesday, August 31, said they will begin assigning areas and deploying volunteers for the project.
“We will be having a coordination meeting with the different stakeholders of Davao City that will be conducted in Sangguniang Panglungsod (City Council),” Madrazo said.
More or less 80 participants will be invited, but down the line it is also the barangay who will be working more under their respective jurisdictions.
Part of the drive, Madrazo said is also the enhancement of some areas where the tourist’s spots are located like the Cleanergy Park and the Bone museum.
“We’re trying to clean it up and maybe introduce some enhancement just like landscaping and beautifying the areas,” she added.
The project will involve all kinds of public spaces parks, riverbanks, schoolyards, sidewalks, playing fields and a lot more.
She also noted they are expecting 10,000 volunteers for the clean-up drive as this will be part of the 100 days accomplishments of President Duterte.
“So hopefully they are looking up for Davao, the whole region expects that Davao will lead the activity,” Madrazo said urging the Dabawenyos to participate.
Cleanliness in the environment contributes a lot in maintaining a healthy environment, thus this activity is a simple but helpful way for the improvement of the places for environmental sustainability to help prevent global warming and climate change and other environmental problems.
The conduct of this activity is a wakeup call to the Filipinos on how to protect and preserve the environment. (JCR)
