A DETAINEE of Bacolod Police Station 1 died after he collapsed inside the station’s custodial facility Friday.
Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino, head of Police Station 1, identified the fatality as Rodnie Lumangyao, 46, of Barangay Handumanan.
The other detainees called for assistance after they saw Lumangyao collapsed past 7 a.m., Tolentino said over Bombo Radyo Bacolod.
He was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but did not make it.
Tolentino said the incident happened several hours after he was placed under police custody.
He was arrested at Barangay 35 early Friday after residents saw him at the roof of a house in the village. The residents claimed he was a robber, police said.
The police station chief said Lumangyao was hiding after his cousin had an altercation with someone in the barangay.
Police did not recover any stolen items from him, but residents wanted him detained for trespassing, alarm and scandal, Tolentino said.
Lumangyao was reportedly mauled by residents, he added.
Police are still waiting for the medical results to determine the cause of Lumangyao’s death. (GYM)
