CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) in Central Luzon has reportedly passed a resolution favorably endorsing the establishment of Biodiversity and Climate Change Centers inside Central Luzon State University (CLSU).
“The existing facilities (of CLSU) need to be improved to establish additional data analysis laboratories that shall be utilized for biodiversity and climate change adaptation research and development; and information and education campaigns,” RDC Vice Chair and National Economic Development Authority (Neda) Regional Director Severino Santos said.
“This is in line with the Central Luzon Regional Development Plan 2017-2022 which aims to sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt biodiversity loss, and strengthen the implementation and prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and resilience of communities and ecosystems,” Santos added.
The facilities are worth Php165 million and will be funded under the Niche Centers in the Region for Research and Development Program of Department of Science and technology.
RDC-Central Luzon is the highest policy-making body in Central Luzon and serves as the counterpart of the NEDA Board at the subnational level.
It is the primary institution that coordinates and sets the direction of all economic and social development efforts in the region and serves as a forum where local efforts can be related and integrated with national development activities.
Council members include all governors, city mayors, municipal mayors of capital towns, presidents of mayors league, regional directors of national government agencies and representatives from the private sector.
