IN CELEBRATION of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) this month, the Regional Development Council (RDC) and National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) will hold a Regional Research Utilization Forum aimed on disaster risk reduction on September 28 at the RDC Conference Hall in Iloilo City.
Chief of DPRM Yvette Batacandolo said the forum will present innovative ideas and pioneering technologies on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation to enhance the knowledge and skills of local disaster risk reduction and management officials in the region, particularly of those localities severely damaged by Super typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.
Batacandolo said that Proclamation No. 247 declares the month of September every year as Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) to promote and draw nationwide awareness on the importance of policy research in the formulation of national development plans, programs and policies.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Investing in Risk Reduction for a Resilient Philippines.”
This year’s theme was chosen in order to highlight the need for in-depth reflections and analyses of resilience building, risk reduction, and structural transformation, and the role of appropriate policy interventions in building the country’s resilience to various economic, environmental, political, and social risks and stresses.
Researches provide the data needed to analyze past and present situations, performances, issues, gaps and development constraints that hinder growth and desired outcomes.
Development policy researches enable decision-makers in government to better understand issues at the grassroots or community level and to decide on policies that have direct impact on the Filipino people. (PR)
