A PHYSICIAN from Cebu City who was caught using illegal drugs inside his hotel room in Bacolod City Monday, April 10, was released from detention the following day.
Police Station 1 Chief Eugene Tolentino said the 39-year-old suspect, whose name he withheld, was released around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
He will be undergoing treatment in a rehabilitation institution in Cebu City.
Tolentino said they released the doctor after the City Prosecutor's Office did not accept the filing of drug cases against him due to the refusal of the hotel staff to participate.
Police responded after they received a call for assistance from a hotel staff, who reported that their client failed to leave his room for three days.
After reaching the doctor's family, the hotel management and the police opened the room. They recovered a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, an improvised tooter, and a lighter.
Tolentino said despite the non-participation of the hotel staff, the police will still pursue the filing of charges for violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs), Section 12 (possession of drug paraphernalia), and Section 15 (drug use) of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against the suspect, who is working as a resident dermatologist in a beauty salon at a shopping mall in the city.
