DOF offers P1-M bounty for arrest of BIR director's killers

THE Department of Finance offered Monday another P1-million cash reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the persons behind the murder of Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Regional Director Jonas Amora.

On Sunday, the Finance department offered the same amount for the capture of the killers of Customs Deputy Commissioner Arturo Lachica on November 17 in Manila.

The DOF said it strongly condemns the killings of Lachica and Amora, adding that the agency is “in contact with the highest levels of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to arrest the perpetrators of both murders.”

Those who have any information relevant to the murders of Lachica and/or Amora can contact either DOF head executive assistant Marc Gregory Crisostomo or technical assistant Alddon Christner Ang.

Crisostomo and Ang can be contacted at telephone nos. 523-9215 and 523-9219.

“The private individual who earlier offered the P1 million for information on Lachica’s murder has now upped the reward. It is now P1 million each for information leading to the arrests of the persons responsible for the murders of Deputy Commissioner Lachica and Regional Director Amora,” the DOF said.

The DOF did not identify the source of the cash reward and said the identity of the would-be informants would also remain strictly confidential.

According to the BIR, Amora, who was the bureau’s regional director of Revenue Region 8-Makati City, was killed early Monday morning in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City by unknown assailants on board a motorcycle.

The motive for the killing is still unknown, the BIR said.

Amora, a certified public accountant, rose from the ranks in the bureau, starting his stint in the government service as a revenue examiner, and later as regional director in Quezon City, where he had consistently delivered “topnotch performance.”

The BIR described Amora as a “dedicated public servant” who has no known enemies either in or out of the Bureau. (SDR/Sunnex)
